NON-CE LUNCH SYMPOSIUM
Matching Clinical Assessment To Convexity Characteristics: Results of a Multi-site, International, Prospective Product Evaluation in Three Countries
- Sunday, June 1st, 12:20-1:50 PM
- Room: Crystal Ballroom (Salon K)
- Session Number: S04
- Presented by Tod Brindle / PhD, MSN, RN, ET, CWON / Sr. Medical Affairs Director - Convatec; Daphne Hodges / MSN, RN, CWOCN / Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse / Community Memorial Health System; and more to be announced
This session will focus on the practical implementation of convexity in clinical practice through a review of outcomes from a multi-site, international, prospective product evaluation in three countries. First, scientific data comparing 33 different soft convex products will be reviewed to understand how convex characteristics may vary between products. Then, attendees will learn how to match clinical assessment findings to key convex characteristics through case studies from ostomy nurses in different countries. Further, the results of over 1600 evaluations of a new ostomy technology will be presented.
NON-CE PRODUCT INNOVATION SESSION
ACCOMMODATING CHANGE IN STOMA SIZE: New Evidence on the Use of a Moldable Technology and a Novel Robotic Stoma Model
- Monday, June 2nd, 4:40-5:25 PM
- Room: Magnolia 20
- Session Number: 311
- Presented by Richard Schneider / MSN/MBA, AGACNP-BC, CWON / Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse - Adventist Health Howard Memorial & Menocino coast Redwood Valley, California; Ethan Chen / Materials Engineer - Convatec
This session will explore the latest clinical and in vitro research on moldable technology. We’ll review findings from two recent studies and a global consensus statement, highlighting their impact on clinical practice. The session will also feature a demonstration and discussion using the first dynamic stoma model, “Robo-Stoma”.
Understanding Convexity Characteristics: The Journey from Bench to Bedside
(Recording from January 23, 2024 live event)
During this webinar, you will learn about novel research which will help clinicians translate convex characteristics to clinical practice and product selection. This presentation will support clinicians across the care continuum better understand the characteristics of convexity as it relates to ostomy pouching systems.
Objectives:
- Describe the 5 characteristics of convexity
- Discuss 2 main considerations for the use of appropriate tension location in convex wafer selection
- Demonstrate the impact of convexity characteristics through finite element analysis comparing different convex wafers
- Identify clinical cases to translate characteristics to product selection
Presented by Dr. Tod Brindle, PhD, MSN, RN, ET, CWCN / Medical Affairs Director & Phil Gowans / R&D Project Manager from the Convatec Ostomy Care team.
